#761 - Star Trek (2009 Film)

I have been waiting to get a chance to watch this movie since this time, when I watched Angels & Demons. I have been patiently waiting for about four months (as of now) when finally I get the chance to watch it!! haha... :) (I was complaining about 21's slowness in airing it while I was in Yogyakarta this time).

Well, I am not afraid of writing a quick synopsis of this film here since it was premiered more than four months ago (not a big deal to spill the story a bit here now, hehe).

Note : this story happened in an alternate timeline, not the same timeline in other Star Trek series

The story began when USS Kelvin went on a mission to investigate an anomaly in space, which was the lightning storm, which actually was the place where a Romulan mining ship, the Narada, captained by Nero, arrived from the future, 154 years ahead of the timeline. The Narada destroyed USS Kelvin, along with one of its commander, George Kirk, the father of future-to-be Captain James T. Kirk. James T. Kirk was born on a fleeing shuttlecraft from USS Kelvin to escape the destruction.

The story jumped 25 years later showcasing the rebelious young James T. Kirk which eventually was convinced by Capt. Christopher Pike to join Starfleet. After getting accused for cheating during the "Kobayashi Maru" test, James Kirk was brought into a court where he encountered Spock. During the court, a distress signal was received from Vulcan and all cadets were ordered to help the ship crews on orbit.

Kirk recognized that the signal was a trap and warned Capt. Pike but they were too late as all other ships had been destroyed, and the Narada had almost drilled the planet Vulcan completely to its core. Kirk and Sulu were sent to stop the drill but when they did, they had been late as Nero launched the "red matter" to the hole to create a blackhole which would suck the entire planet. Spock went on a rescue mission but failed to save his mom. The Narada then headed to Earth to also destroy it.

Acting as captain (as Captain Pike was hostaged by Nero), Spock had an argument with Kirk about their next step and Spock dumped Kirk to a Delta Vega planet. Coincidentally, Kirk found the older Spock, who also came from the future, and they did mind-meld. Kirk then knew the whole story. About 129 years in the future, a supernova occured and threatened planet Romulus. Spock was on a mission to create a blackhole to suck the supernova but was late as the supernova had already destroyed Remulus as he was on mission. Nero blamed Spock for the destroy of his planet and attempted to kill him. During the fight, both ships were pulled by the blackhole and got sent back to the past, with the Narada was pulled first and arrived 25 years before Spock arrived (this was when the Narada encountered USS Kelvin).

Then the older Spock sent Kirk and Montgomerry Scott to Enterprise as it was moving on warp-speed. Kirk convinced Spock that he was emotionally compromised and forfeiting his command and passing it to Kirk. Kirk sent Enterprise to the earth and made a rescue plan. The plan then worked as the Narada was destroyed and sucked into a blackhole, also with Nero along.

In the end, Kirk was promoted into Starfleet Captain, commanding USS Enterprise.

Well, watching the movie, of course it's not flawless. I hate the first thirty minutes of the movie when it showed Kirk's life when he was on earth (prior to his enrollment to Starfleet). Well, for me, it's SO not Star Trek: a bar fight, trouble-maker kid. Well, it was like not watching Star Trek (for me) and NOT enjoyable to watch. But then, it all changed after Kirk enrolled the academy, especially after the "Kobayashi Maru" incident, where he met Spock (and engaged in a held argument) for the first time.

Of course after that there were some unnecessary scenes, for example Uhura kissing Spock so many times (but at first Spock didn't kiss back but later he did). C'Mon, it's not that necessary. The purpose of the scenes might be highlighting Spock's humanity side, but to me, that purpose wasn't achieved. I didn't see that side from this scene. That side was more showcased in some other scenes.

The other one was Kirk being chased by two alien on Delta Vega (C'Mon, those hungry aliens weren't that necessary right? It's Star Trek guys!!). But apart from those scenes, it was SO cool!!

Of course the movie also emphasized on the action side, which was really cool and might attract more people to watch, and as a result the story was not really "deep" as some Star Trek episodes, in fact it could be categorized as "light", because it's not full with philosophy, haha. . However, I am okay with that. If the movie was a bit "deeper", it might have been more boring. Beside, even though it was in the parallel universe, it still has connectivities with the main universe on the Star Trek timeline, including Captain Archer (from Star Trek: Enterprise). Those connections are really cool, for me.

The most important question is probably: "Did I enjoy watching it?", and the answer is: "Absouletly YES". If I gave Angels and Demons 4.5 out of 5, I gotta give this movie 4.9 out of 5!! Apart from the first thirty minutes and those unnecessary scenes, it was so cool and enjoyable!! Very recommended!! hehe... :) IT MIGHT BE THE BESTEST MOVIE THIS YEAR!!

This movie is even one of very FEW movies I will be more than willing to watch more than once!!

Now I'm waiting for its sequel tho, Star Trek II which will be launched in 2011. (Anyway, why do film producers tend to focus on USS Enterprise (Original Series: James Kirk or TNG : Jean-Luc Picard), and not USS Voyager (Janeway) for the movie?? Hmmm....)

Aku sudah menunggu untuk mendapat kesempatan menonton film ini semenjak waktu ini, ketika aku nonton Angels & Demons dan dapat tanggal premier-nya Star Trek (kalo niat nontonnya uda dari sejak pertama kali denger). Aku sudah dengan bersabar ria menunggu selama empat bulan (sampe sekarang) ketika akhirnya aku dapat kesempatan nonton!! haha... :) (aku bahkan juga komplain kan akan keleletan 21 Jogja nayangin Star Trek pada waktu ini).

Catatan : cerita ini berlaku di waktu paralel, yaitu alur waktu yang berbeda dengan alur waktu utama di seri Star Trek.

Yah, sekarang sih ga takut yah nulis sinopsisnya soalnya udah ditayangin sejak empat bulan yang lalu lebih (ga masalah lah nulis ceritanya disini, hehe).

Cerita diawali dengan USS Kelvin yang sedang dalam misi untuk menginvestigasi anomali di luar angkasa, yaitu awan kilat, yang ternyata merupakan tempat munculnya kapal penambang Romulan, Narada, yang datang dari masa depan, 154 tahun dari masa itu. Narada menghancurkan USS Kelvin termasuk salah satu komandannya, George Kirk, yang merupakan ayah dari Kapten James T. Kirk. Waktu itu James T. Kirk dilahirkan di sekoci penyelamat untuk menyelamatkan diri dari hancurnya USS Kelvin.

Cerita lompat 25 tahun kemudian dimana James T. Kirk muda yang berjiwa berandalan diyakinkan Kapten Christopher Pike untuk bergabung dengan Starfleet. Setelah dituduh curang dalam tes "Kobayashi Maru", James Kirk dibawa ke sebuah sidang dimana ia bertemu dengan Spock untuk pertama kalinya dimana mereka terlibat argumen yang tergantung, karena mereka mendapat sinyal darurat dari Vulcan sehingga semua perwira harus siap siaga di posisi mereka untuk membantu di luar angkasa.

Kirk menyadari kalo sinyal itu jebakan dan memperingatkan Kapten Pike tetapi mereka terlambat karena semua kapal lain telah dihancurkan, dan Narada sudah hampir selesai mengebor planet Vulcan sampai ke pusatnya. Kirk dan Sulu dikirim untuk menghentikan pengeboran tetapi ketika mereka berhasil, semua sudah terlambat. Nero melepaskan "materi-merah" ke dalam pusat planet untuk membentuk lubang hitam yang akan menyedot keseluruhan planet. Spock turun ke Vulcan dalam misi penyelamatan tetapi gagal menyelamatkan ibunya. Narada kemudian mengarah ke Bumi untuk menghancurkannya.

Berlaku sebagai kapten (Kapten Pike disandera Nero), Spock bertengkar dengan Kirk mengenai langkah mereka selanjutnya dan kemudian Spock menelantarkan Kirk di planet Delta Vega. Kebetulan, Kirk bertemu Spock tua, yang datang dari masa depan juga, dan mereka melakukan mind-meld. Kirk kemudian tahu semuanya. Sekitar 129 tahun di masa depan, terjadi sebuah supernova dan mengancam keberadaan planet Romulus. Spock berada dalam misi untuk menciptakan black-hole untuk menyedot supernova itu tetapi terlambat karena planet Romulus uda hancur duluan. Nero menyalahkan Spock atas kehancuran planetnya dan mau balas dendam. Di tengah pertarungan, dua kapal mereka tersedot lubang hitam dengan kapal Nero tersedot duluan dan sampai di masa lalu 25 tahun lebih dulu daripada Spock, itulah saat Narada bertemu dengan USS Kelvin.

Trus, Spock tua mengirim Kirk dan Montgomerry Scott ke Enterprise ketika sedang bergerak dengan kecepatan warp. Kirk meyakinkan Spock bahwa ia tidak stabil secara emosional dan melepaskan jabatannya kemudian menyerahkannya pada Kirk. Kirk mengarahkan Enterprise ke Bumi untuk melakukan misi penyelamatan. Rencana berhasil dan Narada hancur dan tersedot lubang hitam, beserta Nero.

Akhirnya, Kirk dipromosikan menjadi Kapten Starfleet, mengomandani USS Enterprise.

Yah, setelah nonton, tentu saja filmnya tidak sempurna. Aku ga suka tiga puluh menit pertama dari filmnya yang menunjukkan kehidupan Kirk ketika ia ada di Bumi (sebelum bergabung dengan Starfleet). Untuk aku, bener2 NGGAK Star-Trek banget lah: perkelahian di bar, anak kecil bermasalah. Kaya gak nonton Star Trek (untuk aku) dan NGGAK asik untuk dilihat lah. Tapi kemudian semua berubah setelah Kirk bergabung di akademi, terutama setelah insiden "Kobayashi Maru", dimana ia bertemu dengan Spock (dan berargumen tak selesai) untuk pertama kalinya.

Tentu saja ada beberapa adegan gak penting lainnya, misalnya Uhura mencium Spock beberapa kali (awalnya Spock tidak membalas tapi akhirnya ia membalas). Gak penting banget deh adegan ini. Mungkin memang adegan ini ingin menunjukkan sisi kemanusiaan Spock, tapi menurutku tujuan itu gagal karena aku tidak melihat sisi itu dari adegan ini. Sisi kemanusiaannya jauh lebih menonjol pada adegan2 lain.

Adegan lain adalah Kirk dikejar-kejar dua alien gak penting di planet Delta Vega (ayolah, alien lapar itu gak banget deh, ini Star Trek Pak, Bu!!). Tapi selain adegan2 kaya gitu, KEREN banget deh!!

Tentu saja filmnya juga menekankan pada sisi aksi, yang sangat keren dan mungkin dapat menarik perhatian lebih banyak orang untuk menonton, yang sebagai akibatnya ceritanya tidak "dalam-dalam" amat kata cerita Star Trek lainnya. Bahkan mungkin bisa dikatakan sebagai "ringan" lho. Tapi aku gpp sih dengan semua itu, mungkin kalau lebih "berat" bisa jadi lebih membosankan dan lebih dikit orang yang nonton. Di samping itu, yang keren lagi adalah walau terjadi di waktu paralel dengan cerita utama, masih ada lho hubungan dengan tokoh2 atau cerita di cerita utama, termasuk bahkan Kapten Archer (dari Star Trek: Enterprise). Hubungan2 kaya gitu menurutku sih keren.

Pertanyaan paling penting mungkin adalah: "Apakah aku menikmatinya?", dan jawabannya adalah "Tentu saja IYA". Jika aku memberi nilai 4,5 dari 5 untuk Angels and Demons, aku harus kasi nilai 4,9 dari 5 untuk film ini!! Di samping tiga puluh menit pertama dan beberapa adegan gak penting, filmnya keren dan sangat menarik!! Sangat disarankan untuk ditonton!! hehe... :) MUNGKIN INI ADALAH SATU FILM TERBAIK TAHUN INI!! :)

Film ini bahkan menjadi satu dari SANGAT SEDIKIT film yang aku mau untuk tonton lebih dari sekali dengan senang hati!!

Sekarang aku nunggu sekuel-nya nih, Star Trek II yang akau main tahun 2011. (Ngomong2, kenapa ya koq produser film cenderung fokus pada awak USS Enterprise (Original Series: James Kirk or TNG : Jean-Luc Picard), dan bukan USS Voyager (Janeway) untuk dibuat film?? Hmmm....)

#717 - Angels and Demons (Film)

Well, this Monday has been exciting. This is because finally I can watch a new long-awaited movie, Angels and Demons. Well, I have read this novel before. I read it this time, about 3.5 years ago. Well, I didn't write the details there, but I gotta tell you, I LOVE it!! It's the best Dan Brown's novel out of all four I have read. I even like it a lot better than The DaVinci Code. Well, I personally think The DaVinci Code is more popular because it attracts more controversy than Angels and Demons. However, considering the story, I think Angels and Demons is more interesting and exciting.

So, back to the movie I watched. The movie was played each hour at Blitz Megaplex, so my friends and I bought tickets for the 5 PM show since we gotta pay for our trip to Jakarta next week first, hehe. Anyway, at 4.30 PM we arrived back at PVJ and went to the cinema. Then, of course we watched the 138 minutes movie (wow, it's a great time-length, haha).

Well, the movie was SUPERB for me!! I have read the book so I think I'm kinda more critical. Usually when we have read the book and watch a movie based on it, we will be more critical and be easier to get disappointed. For example, three years ago when I watched The DaVinci Code's Film. Well, in my link, I wrote it was good while I actually was a bit disappointed with the movie. However, this time, it's NOT the case for me!! I LOVE the movie!! Kudos to the director! If I wrote The DaVinci Code was good, Angels and Demons was AWESOME!!

Well, of course to deal with the time constraint, the producer gotta cut some parts of the novel. The producer smartly cut the 'unnecessary' details from the novel so the story is still connected one part to another, not causing confusion just like what happened on The DaVinci Code, especially for those who haven't read the novel. Some controversial details were also cut off from the movie but not affecting the outcome of the movie. For example, the fact that the carmelengo was the son of the pope, etc. Even, some parts were edited (different from the novel as I recall) like the origin of carmelengo. In the novel, he was from Italy while on the movie, he was from Northern Ireland (probably to accomodate with Ewan McGregor who portrayed him). All of these are still understandable and the most important thing is that the movie is still great!!

If I gotta rate it, I'm gonna rate it 4.5 out of 5!! Great!!

Now, I'm waiting for Star Trek to premier in Indonesia next June, haha...

Yah, Senin ini menyenangkan nih. Ini karena hari ini aku bisa menonton film yang sudah lama ditunggu-tunggu, Angels and Demons. Yah, aku sudah membaca novelnya sebelumnya. Aku membacanya pada waktu ini, sekitar 3,5 tahun yang lalu. Hmm, aku tidak menulis detailnya di link itu, tetapi harus aku katakan, aku SUKA BANGET!! Novel ini adalah novel Dan Brown terbaik dari semua empat novelnya yang sudah aku baca. Aku juga jauh lebih menyukainya daripada The DaVinci Code. Hmm, aku pribadi sih mengira kalau The DaVinci Code lebih populer karena lebih kontroversial daripada Angels and Demons. Namun, kalo melihat ceritanya, rasanya Angels and Demons lebih menarik dan lebih seru.

Nah, balik ke film yang aku tonton. Filmnya dimainkan setiap jam di Blitz Megaplex, makanya aku dan temenku membeli tiket jam 5 sore soalnya kita mesti mengurus pembayaran untuk perjalanan ke Jakarta minggu depan, hehe. Trus jam 4.30 sore kita tiba di PVJ dan pergi ke bioskopnya. Trus, tentu saja langsung nonton film berdurasi 138 menit itu (wow, panjang waktu yang memuaskan juga).

Yah, filmnya KEREN BANGET untuk aku!! Aku sudah membaca novelnya lho makanya aku rasa aku lumayan kritis juga. Biasanya kan kalo kita sudah membaca bukunya kemudian menonton film yang berdasarkan buku itu, kita akan menjadi lebih kritis dan lebih mudah kecewa kan. Misalnya saja, tiga tahun yang lalu ketika aku nonton The DaVinci Code. Di link itu, aku menulisnya filmnya bagus walau sebenarnya aku agak kecewa sih sama filmnya. Namun, kali ini TIDAK begitu!! Aku SUKA BANGET sama filmnya!! Hebat deh sutradaranya! Kalau aku menulis The DaVinci Code bagus, berarti Angels and Demons SANGAT BAGUS!!

Yah, tentu saja untuk menyesuaikan dengan keterbatasan waktu, produser harus memotong beberapa bagian dari novel. Secara cerdas produsernya memotong beberapa detail 'kurang penting' dari novelnya sehingga ceritanya masih nyambung satu bagian ke bagian lain dan tidak menimbulkan kebingungan di penonton, terutama yang belum pernah membaca novelnya. Tidak seperti di The DaVinci Code tuh. Beberapa detail kontroversial juga rasanya dihapus yah tetapi masih tidak mempengaruhi hasil dari filmnya. Misalnya, fakta bahwa carmelengo sebenarnya adalah anak dari paus, dll. Bahkan, beberapa bagian juga diedit (berbeda dari novelnya seingetku) misalnya asal carmelengo. Di novel kan dia berasal dari Italia sementara di film berasal dari Irlandia Utara (mungkin untuk ngepasin sama Ewan McGregor kali yah). Semua ini masih bisa dimaklumi dan yang penting filmnya bagus banget!!

Kalau aku harus menilainya, aku kasih nilai 4,5 dari 5 deh!! Hebat!!

Sekarang, aku menunggu Star Trek neh untuk mulai main di Indonesia Juni nanti, haha...

#565 - The Dark Knight

Finally last Friday I watched the newest movie of Batman: The Dark Knight. I had read some reviews about it before and all of them were positive. That made me curious, hahaha...

After watching it, I can't agree more. I think this movie is the bestest movie I have watched this year so far!!! One thing that made this movie strong is that it didn't only focus on visual effect (technology) but also the story itself, which is more important (for me).

The story was also so strong because there were so many life values delivered to the audiences. Those values weren't wrapped in a boring way that made the audiences fell asleep (LOL), but in some dramatic (and thrilling) scenes with great visual effects and nice music. The most dramatic scene (for me) with one life value (kindness inside every people no matter how 'bad' they are) was when 2 bunch of people were on 2 different ferries found gasolines and bomb on their ferries, plus a detonator in each ferries to blow the other ferries up.

No need to talk about the visual effect or music technology. Technology nowadays has really been modern and cool... ;) Some people might find the storyline confusing. Yea, it was a bit complex, but if we focus, I believe we would still understand, hahaha... . At least we would understand the main story. Also, all parts of the movies were so cool, no boring scene (for me), and thrilling, hahaha....

Who is the best actor? I gotta say: Heath Ledger (portraying Joker). He really greatly portrayed the Joker character. He was able to show us how sinister, maniac, and mad Joker was. Christian Bale also greatly portrayed Bruce Wayne aka Batman, but I still think Ledger shone more than him.

note: Heath Ledger (aged 28) died after filming this movie due to drug overdose. The world really has lost one great actor. May he rest in peace.

So, I think watching this movie is a MUST!! hehehe... ;) I gotta rate it 5 out of 5!! :)

Akhirnya Jumat kemarin aku bisa nonton film terbarunya Batman: The Dark Knight. Aku sudah membaca beberapa review tentangnya sebelumnya dan semuanya positif. Makanya kan jadi penasaran, hahaha...

Habis nonton, aku setuju banget dah. Menurutku film ini adalah film paling bagus banget dari semua film yang sudah aku tonton tahun ini sejauh ini!!! Satu hal yang membuat film ini kuat adalah film ini nggak cuma fokus pada visual efek (teknologi) yang keren tapi juga pada ceritanya, yang menurutku lebih penting.

Ceritanya juga kuat banget soalnya ada banyak nilai-nilai kehidupan yang disampaikan pada penonton. Nilai-nilai tersebut tidak dibungkus secara membosankan yang membuat penonton mengantuk (LOL), tapi melalui adegan2 dengan visual efek dan tatanan musik yang baik secara dramatis (dan menegangkan). Adegan paling dramatis (menurutku) dengan satu nilai kehidupan (kebaikan di dalam hati setiap orang nggak peduli se-'jahat' apa orang2 tersebut) adalah ketika ada 2 kapal feri dengan orang-orang di dalamnya dan mereka menemukan bensin dan bom di kapal mereka, dan sebuah detonator di masing-masing kapal untuk meledakkan kapal satunya.

Nggak perlu diomongkan deh visual efek atau musiknya. Teknologi sekarang kan udah modern banget dan keren... ;) Beberapa orang mungkin merasa jalan ceritanya membingungkan. Ah, ya memang agak kompleks sih, tapi kalau kita fokus nontonnya aku percaya koq pasti akan mengerti, hahaha... . Ya paling nggak akan mengerti jalan cerita utamanya lah. Juga, semua bagian film-nya keren lho, nggak ada yang membosankan (untuk aku), dan menegangkan juga, hahaha....

Siapakah aktor paling bagus? Yah, bagiku ya: Heath Ledger (memerankan Joker). Dia benar-benar memerankan karakter Joker dengan bagus banget loh. Dia mampu menunjukkan ke-sinis-an, kegilaan, ke-maniak-an dari Joker. Christian Bale juga memerankan Bruce Watne aka Batman dengan baik, tapi aku masih merasa Ledger bersinar lebih dari dia.

catatan: Heath Ledger (umur 28) meninggal loh setelah syuting film ini karena overdosis obat. Wah, dunia kehilangan satu aktor besar. Semoga dia beristirahat dalam damai.

Jadi, menurutku menonton film ini tu HARUS banget!! hehehe... ;) Aku kasi nilai 5 dari 5 deh!! :)

#375 - Harry Potter 5 (movie)

Finally today I could watch Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. This movie probably was one of the most waited movies of the year.

Well, not to make this entry long, you can read my review here, but overall I was disappointed. The movie was boring at many parts, and I think it focused too much on Dolores Umbridge. I know it was the duration which caused the producers to cut some parts of the novel, but it doesn't mean the only option was focusing on Umbridge. Overall, I score it 3 out of 5.

Anyway, I found that Evanna Lynch who portrayed Luna Lovegood looks like one racer on The Amazing Race 5 and All-Stars, Mirna, he3... :) Look at the pic below. Btw, Evelyn was too cute to portray Luna, I think, wakakakakakaka... :)

Akhirnya hari ini saya menonton Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. Film ini mungkin film yang paling ditunggu yah tahun ini.

Hmm, biar posting ini nggak panjang, bisa dibaca deh review saya disini, tapi secara keseluruhan aku sih kecewa. Filmnya membosankan di kebanyakan bagian, dan aku rasa terlalu fokus ke Dolores Umbridge deh. Aku tau sih durasinya yang bikin produsernya memotong beberapa bagian novel, tapi ya kan gak berarti pilihanya cuma pada fokus pada Umbridge. Keseluruhan, aku nilai 3 deh dari 5.

Ngomong2, aku koq merasa kalo Evanna Lynch yang memainkan Luna Lovegood mirip sama salah satu pemain di The Amazing Race 5 dan All-Stars yah, Mirna, he3... :) Liat tu gambarnya di atas. Btw, Evelyn sih terlalu cakep buat mainin Luna, aku rasa sih, wakakakakaka... :)

#245 - "Bond, James Bond"

Yesterday evening, my friend and I went to Paris van Java Mall planning to watch a brand new James Bond movie, Casino Royale. This film is probably one of the most booming film I have ever watched in cinema. The cinema (Blitz Megaplex), played this film every hour. After buying the tickets (the film would start at 5 PM), we went to buy drinks and snacks at Carrefour (it's a lot cheaper to buy those snacks at the supermarket than buying at the cinema).

Then, the film started at 5 PM and the room was almost full of people (it was a big room). This is the synopsis of the film (copied from here):

Casino Royale introduces James Bond before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated to '00' status. Bond's first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar where he is to spy on a terrorist, Mollaka. Not everything goes to plan and Bond decides to investigate, independently of MI6, in order to track down the rest of the terrorist cell. Following a lead to the Bahamas, he encounters Dimitrios and his girlfriend, Solange. He learns that Dimitrios is involved with Le Chiffre, banker to the world's terrorist organizations. Secret Service intelligence reveals that Le Chiffre is planning to raise money in a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro at Le Casino Royale. MI6 assigns 007 to play against him, knowing that if Le Chiffre loses, it will destroy his organization. 'M' places Bond under the watchful eye of the beguiling Vesper Lynd. At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond's interest in her deepens as they brave danger together and even torture at the hands of Le Chiffre. In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with Mathis MI6's local field agent, and Felix Leiter who is representing the interests of the CIA. The marathon game proceeds with dirty tricks and violence, raising the stakes beyond blood money and reaching a terrifying climax.


As (almost) everyone knows, the new James Bond is Daniel Craig, replacing Pierce Brosnan and somehow this became a controversy in the past (which I don't really care). Overall, I think this film was good enough. I like this movie better than the previous one, Die Another Day since it seems to be more "real" (in Die Another Day, the Bond's car was invisible which for now is an impossible thing, that's one thing). I think this could be a good pre-sequel of the whole James Bond movies. At least, yesterday I didn't yawn nor felt sleepy when the movie was being played... :)

Kemarin sore, temenku sama aku pergi ke Mall Paris van Java untuk menonton film terbaru dari James Bond, Casino Royale. Film ini mungkin adalah salah satu film paling booming yang pernah aku tonton di bioskop. Bioskopnya (Blitz Megaplex), memainkan film ini satu jam sekali. Habis membeli tiketnya (filmnya bakalan mjulai jam 5 sore), kita pergi beli minuman dan snack dulu di Carrefour (lebih murah loh beli snack di supermarket daripada beli snack itu di bioskopnya).

Trus, filmnya mulai jam 5 sore dan ruangannya hampir penuh loh (ruangannya besar juga tuh). Ini di bawah sinopsis dari filmnya (dikopi dari sini dan aku terjemahin):

Casino Royale menceritakan James Bond saat dia belum mendapatkan izin membunuhnya. Tetapi Bond bukan berarti lebih tidak berbahaya, dan dengan 2 pembunuhan profesional dalam misi yang sukses, dia dipromosikan / naik status menjadi '00'. Misi pertama Bond sebagai 007 membawanya ke Madagaskar dimana dia harus memata-matai teroris, Mollaka. Nggak semuanya berjalan sesuai dengan rencana dan Bond memutuskan untuk menginvestigasi, secara independen (sendiri) MI6, untuk melacak terorisnya. Mengikuti petunjuk yang didapatnya ke Bahama, dia bertemu dengan Dimitrios dan pacarnya, Solange. Dia menemukan bahwa Dimitrios terlibat dengan Le Chiffre, seorang bankir dari organisasi teroris dunia. Intelijen Rahasia menemukan bahwa Le Chiffre sedang berencana untuk mendapatkan uang dengan bermain poker kelas atas di Montenegro di La Casino Royale. MI6 menugaskan James Bond untuk bermain melawannya, mengetahui kalau Le Chiffre kalah, berarti kehancuran bagi organisasinya. 'M' mengutus James Bond dibawah pengawasan Vesper Lynd. Awalnya, kecurigaan tampak pada Vesper, ketertarikan Bond padanya menjadi semakin dalam setelah menghadapi bahaya bersama dan dianiaya oleh Le Chiffre. Di Montenegro, Bond bekerjasama dengan Mathis, orang lokal agen dari MI6, dan Felix Leiter, seorang utusan dari CIA. Permainan kemudian berlangsung dengan trik-trik kotor dan kekejaman, meningkatkan taruhan dengan uang berdarah dan mencapai klimaks yang menegangkan.


Seperti yang (hampir) semua orang tahu, James Bond yang baru adalah Daniel Craig, menggantikan Pierce Brosnan dan ini menjadi kontroversi beberapa waktu yang lalu (yang nggak gitu aku urus). Secara keseluruhan, aku rasa filmnya bagus juga. Aku lebih suka film ini daripada yang sebelumnya, Die Another Day, soalnya ini kelihatan lebih "nyata" (di Die Another Day, mobil Bond-nya bisa nggak kelihatan, sesuatu yang sangat mustahil untuk saat ini, itu satu hal). Menurutku ini bisa menjadi pre0sekuel yang bagus untuk keseluruhan film Bond. Paling nggak, kemarin aku nggak menguap atau merasa ngantuk waktu nonton filmnya... :)

#210 - "It's Better to Get Alienated than Surrender to Hypocrisy"

Well, finally yesterday night I got the opportunity to watch "GIE", an Indonesia-made film which told us about the life of Soe Hok Gie, an Indonesian-born Chinese who was born 64 years ago. He was an activist who posessed high idealism and cares to the condition of Indonesia's politic life at the 60s (the Soekarno-era (Old Sociopolitical Order) and early Soeharto-era (New Sociopolitical Order)). Well, I, myself, am not a fan of politic, so I won't write anything about that here. I just wanna write my comment about that movie. I think GIE is a good movie, but there is one problem IMO, the plot was so fast and skippy, as a result probably it's hard for some of us to really get the story and in the end, get confused. It's similar with DaVinci Code (Movie). If people haven't read the novel yet, most of them will get confused I guess, in GIE's case, if people haven't read his diary (actually the copy of his diary, which has been published since about 20 years ago), most of them would get confused. I have ever read his diary (my father owns it), but not the whole of it. So, I also got confused at some parts of the film.

Plus, GIE is a "heavy" film, where the purpose is not for fun. So, I recommend you to watch this movie when you are ready to think and concentrate on this film, when your aim of watching movie is just for fun, NEVER think to watch this movie, or you will fall asleep.... :) Well, one of my favorite quote from GIE is: "Lebih baik diasingkan daripada menyerah kepada kemunafikan" (It's better to get alienated than surrender to hypocrisy). One thing that I have learnt from this movie: "everybody owns their own idealism, and there's nothing wrong with that. But the problem is: we can never be able to make our idealism come true 100% since there's nothing ideal in this world. All we can do is to hold on our idealism as our principal and try to behave our best based on that principal and get along with our society's norms."

Akhirnya kemarin malam aku mendapatkan kesempatan untuk nonton "GIE", sebuah film buatan Indonesia yang menceritakan tentang kehidupan Soe Hok Gie, seorang pria keturunan Cina yang dilahirkan 64 tahun yang lalu. Dia adalah aktivis yang memiliki idealisme yang tinggi dan perhatian kepada kondisi kehidupan politik Indonesia pada tahun 60an (Masa Soekarno (Orde Lama) dan awal Masa Soeharto (Orde Baru)). Ngomong-ngomong, aku, pribadi, bukanlah seorang yang suka sama politik, jadi aku nggak akan menulis apapun tentang itu disini. Aku cuma mau menulis komenku tentang film itu. Aku rasa GIE adalah film yang bagus, tapi ada satu masalah deh menurutku, alurnya sangat cepat dan melompat-lompat, jadi sebagai hasilnya mungkin sulit untuk beberapa dari kita untuk bener-bener menangkap ceritanya dan pada akhirnya, bingung deh. Mirip loh sama DaVinci Code (filmnya). kalo orang belum membaca novelnya, kebanyakan dari mereka aku tebak akan bingung, dalam kasus GIE, kalo orang belum membaca diary-nya (sebenernya kopian dari diary-nya sih, yang sudah diterbitkan sejak sekitar 20 tahun yang lalu), kebanyakan dari mereka akan menjadi bingung. Aku pernah sih baca diary-nya (papaku kan punya), tapi enggak keseluruhan diary-nya, makanya aku juga bingung pada beberapa bagian film itu.

Plus, GIE adalah film yang "berat", dimana tujuannya kan bukan untuk senang-senang / hiburan. Jadi, aku merekomendasukan untuk nonton film ini ketika sedang siap untuk berpikir dan konsentrasi pada film ini, ketika tujuan untuk nonton film adalah untuk senang-senang / hiburan, JANGAN PERNAH berpikir untuk nonton film ini, atau malah akan ngantuk... :) Hmm, salah satu kutipan favoritku dari GIE adalah: "Lebih baik diasingkan daripada menyerah kepada kemunafikan" Satu hal yang aku pelajari dari film ini: "setiap orang memiliki idealismenya masing-masing, dan nggak salah sih dengan itu semua. Masalahnya: kita nggak akan pernah membuat idealsime kita terwujud 100% karena nggak ada yang ideal di dunia ini. Apa yang bisa kita lakukan adalah berpegang pada idealsime kita sebagai prinsip kita, dan mencoba untuk bersikap yang terbaik sesuai dengan idealsisme kita itu, sesuai dengan norma masyarakat"
